May Kwock and his brother ran the Palace Meat Market on west Third street. Talk of Redevelopment had been in the air since the late 1940's, and in 1954 the Kwocks made a bold move.
May and his sons opened the Palace ('super') Market at the southern edge of Meadowbrook, near the Orange Show grounds. They staged bold promotions and ran elaborate full-page ads with plenty of loss leaders. Four of the Sakoguchi kids worked there in high school & junior college.
